MBF – SCOME CIMSA UKDW

As freshmen medical students, we need to know more about medical book differences and recommendations, because they are very important as reference sources for us to be able to provide valid data during lectures. Therefore, this event was held with the aim of introducing medical books that were widely used in the first year of college and also introducing the differences of each book. Medical Book Fair is one of SCOME Project and part of CIMSA Program with the focus area on Human Resource for Health in facilitating learning. This project is held based on the data obtained from students of batch 2019 and 2020 about the urgency of having a prior knowledge about medical book recommendations for freshmen and also the majority of students of batch 2021 themselves said that they didn’t have prior knowledge about first-year-book recommendations.

Medical Book Fair 2021 was held online through Zoom Meeting platform on Saturday, September 4, 2021 from 09.30 to 11.55 WIB. The participants gathered in the main room to listen to some welcoming speech and also to do a pretest. Then the participants were divided into four breakout rooms with different speakers in each room to listen to some book recommendations on Anatomy, Physiology, Histology, Pathology, Pharmacology, Dictionary, Biochemistry, and Microbiology, which are courses in the first pre-clinical-year. The concept was 20 minutes explaining about 2 books by each speaker, then the speakers will be rolled up 4 times. In the second session, the speakers, participants, and some organizing committee have an ice-breaking for 10 minutes to lighten the mood. After 4 sessions, the participants reassemble in the main room to do a posttest and listen to the explanations from EGC and FnMC about the book sale.

This event went well and received a lot of positive responses from the participants. The attendance of participants reached 86,5% of the total new students of FK UKDW 2021 which is 90 students. And also there is an increase in post-test average-score by 16,55% from the pretest average-score, which means that the participants had a better understanding about the differences and the recommendation of the medical books used in the first year of college. We do hope that this project can be useful for the new students of FK UKDW 2021 to support their studies and the new students can also find suitable books to support their studies.
